The Empire State Line Project

The Empire State Line was the first competitive bid transmission project awarded and built in the state of New York. NEETNY was selected in 2017 to build the Empire State Line; a new 20-mile, 345 kV electric power line with two new substations that utilize existing utility rights-of-way in Erie and Niagara counties.

The Empire State Line improves electric reliability across New York’s state electric grid and supports the state’s goal of maximizing the flow of energy from renewable resources in the region.

Project construction began in March 2021 and was completed and in-service on June 1, 2022. The line provides cost savings for New York utility customers by making the state’s electric grid more efficient.
